AWG Seminar: How to Blow up a Black Balloon

13-04-2008 “Easily one of the finest Australian films of recent years. A story that’s funny, heart-breaking and packed with dramatic energy.” - Lynden Barber, LIMELIGHT

Elissa Down (writer/director) and Jimmy the Exploder (writer/co-producer) present a detailed guide to the making of their first feature film The Black Balloon. From their early collaboration in Perth, Elissa and Jimmy will give a candid account of how their screen story took shape, from script drafts to casting and production, and on to the prize-winning world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and the current Australian release. Elissa will also screen rushes from the film set, and discuss her daybook to illuminate the director’s role on a feature shoot. This two hour seminar is a rare opportunity to hear close up how an Australian movie gets made.

Prior to the seminar The Black Balloon will be screened at Cinema Paradiso at 1pm, to book a seat email Alan Payne at wa@awg.com.au with ‘(Your Surname) Black Ballon’ in the subject line.

“The Black Balloon is a confronting, beautifully structured film, brimming with 1980’s nostalgia. Toni Collette is at the top of her game and Luke Ford an absolute revelation.” Sunday Life Magazine
